Americans Betrayed Once Again: H-1B, offshore outsourcing

May 31st, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday we had an incredible betrayal of the Professional workforce by Maria Cantwell (D-WA). She has introduced S.Admt 1249 which will absolutely decimate Americans in STEM careers as well as target most middle class careers for labor arbitrage. Other Corporate representatives are Cornyn, Leahy and Hatch.

The Programmers Guild has already issued a damning report on what this amendment would do. This post is a must read.

With so many labor organizations and facts screaming in the face of Congress on how middle class jobs are being targeted for offshore outsourcing and labor arbitrage, why do our representatives seem hell bent on selling out working America?
The Answer is a lobbyist organization, Compete America, which buys off our Congress to labor arbitrage their constituents and give in essence, ultimate control over immigration policy to it’s members.

This video overviews the actual number of jobs in the US for STEM professionals (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics):

Cantwell’s amendment would:

1. Give unlimited H-1B guest worker Visas to anyone, anywhere, from any school, any nation with any “Masters” in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
2. Give unlimited H-1B guest worker Visas to anyone from anywhere who received a US Masters degree in anything.
3. Enable corporations…

Pascrell Defends the American Dream & Compete America opposes $15,000 scholarship!

May 25th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday Senator Bernie Sanders managed to get an amendment accepted that takes a 3,500 fee, a minuscule drop in the bucket of total labor arbitrage profits from using cheap labor, to fund scholarships for Americans to go to college.

Yet, Corporations, who claim we need to invest in America whine that they shouldn’t have to give back to America while they ship our jobs offshore.

Compete America, a Cheap Labor lobbyist group, blasted the Sanders amendment claiming it is:

an outrageous and onerous tax increase on our nation’s most innovative companies, and could make the H-1B program cost-prohibitive, especially for smaller businesses.

Durbin-Grassley’s S.1035 bill actually plugs up the legal labor arbitrage loopholes in both the H-1B and L-1 guest worker Visas. S.1035 is not currently in the immigration bill and is really what America needs.

What this shows is not only is the Horrible Tech Worker Shortage is a big fat lie, but also shows how the Corporate Cheap Labor lobby cannot even give money for enabling Americans to study in these fields!

VK Magapu, chief executive of L&T Infotech (India) says:

It is impossible for us to do this offshoring work without these visas

That is straight from the horse’s mouth that foreign corporations are using these Visas to labor…

H-1B, Labor, Sen. Bernie Sanders Introduces Amendment to Strengthen America!

May 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is going to introduce an amendment to S.1348, the Comprehensive Immigration bill, that stands up for American workers.

The The American Competitiveness Scholarship Program amendment would help so many Americans in attending college and also assist those being displaced by the Corporate Cheap Labor Lobby.
Here is what the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL ENGINEERS AFL-CIO & CLC has to say about this amendment.

As President of the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE), AFL-CIO, I am writing regarding your consideration of S. 1348, the comprehensive immigration reform bill. In particular, IFPTE would like to express our strong opposition to the legislation’s call for an increase in H-1B Visas from its current annual allotment of 65,000 to 115,000.
While IFPTE remains opposed to any increase in the H-1B Visa numbers, the union is supportive of an amendment to be offered by Senator Bernard Sanders (I, VT). The Sanders amendment will significantly increase employer fees on H-1B Visas and use the resulting resources for scholarships in math, science, engineering and nursing education. As a union representing tens of thousands of workers in these very fields, IFPTE applauds Sen. Sanders for bringing this legislation before the full Senate…
