Oh Canada, Catching Obama on NAFTA DoubleSpeak?

February 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hope, change, or is it false hope?  This is must see TV, straight from CTV, a major Canadian network, who checks their sources and it’s damning.  They catch Obama in a bold faced lie on NAFTA.

From CTV:

Within the last month, a top staff member for Obama’s campaign telephoned Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador to the United States, and warned him that Obama would speak out against NAFTA, according to Canadian sources.

The staff member reassured Wilson that the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric, and should not be taken at face value

There are two must see video reports. The first is the original story, the second is the Clinton campaign not only denying they did anything similar but encouraging CTV to investigate and out anyone even remotely affiliated with them who could be found to make such promises to not renegotiate NAFTA.

So far, it sure appears that CTV is dead on, which leads to another question, why is it that Canadian broadcast television can break this so important story while US TV goes on and on about identity politics. Maybe when they renegotiate NAFTA we can import some real journalism to boot.

Obama Pledges Partnership with India

In an article he has written for India Abroad, the Illinois senator has also committed that he will encourage the active engagement and partnership of the Indian American community in “making the change we seek” in US

India Inc.If anyone is not aware, India is intent on obtaining more offshore outsourcing “business” and guest worker Visas to take US jobs.  This is as one of their main agenda items.   They claim it’s simply trade.  Offshore outsourcing is now ~7.5% of their GDP.

Obama goes on to claim:

Together, we can restore and revitalize America’s innovation-based economy so that we can create jobs and meet our most pressing domestic challenges,” he said.

Acknowledging the prowess in IT and high technology fields of Indian Americans who have powered Silicon Valley, he said: “To succeed, we need to make use of technology, a sector where so many Indian Americans have thrived.

Realize he is not talking to US workers, he is telling India they can have our jobs.

Already, in communities across this country, Indian Americans are lifting up our economy and creating jobs,” he said. “Leading entrepreneurs, innovators, lawyers, doctors, engineers, and hardworking professionals are adding to the richness and success of the American…

Hillary and Obama on Trade

February 22nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

While the choices for President slim down to next to none, one might evaluate positions instead of joining the various cheer leading camps. Who, overall has the best trade, economic positions to stop this global train wreck?

Firstly any group name calling someone protectionist because they acknowledge the obviously massive ~5.6% GDP trade deficit, is obviously not basing their economics on anything remotely resembling reality. The reason I link to this Pro Obama group is because they want more bad trade agreements. They assessed Obama as more of a corporate free trader than Hillary. Below are some statements from the two for easy comparison contrast.

Train Wreck

Obama

  • Fight for Fair Trade: Obama will fight for a trade policy that opens up foreign markets to support good American jobs. He will use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world and stand firm against agreements like the Central American Free Trade Agreement that fail to live up to those important benchmarks. Obama will also pressure the World Trade Organization to enforce trade agreements and stop countries from continuing unfair government subsidies to foreign exporters and non tariff barriers on U.S. exports.
  • Amend the North American Free Trade Agreement: Obama believes that NAFTA…
