Is Obama for Change or Just More of the Same?

December 14th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Black HoleWe hear much about change these days with Oprah buzzing around Barak Obama casting the magic star power spell.   But my question is do you really want star power Oprah Winfrey endorsed with slick campaign ads or do you want policy that is truly going to change America and finally stand up for our real interests?

Could it be behind Obama’s change campaign it’s actually more of the same?  A black hole of economic despair behind the shiny lights?

Let’s look at his voting record.  On trade he missed the Peru Trade vote but said he would support it.  Obama also voted for the Oman Free Trade agreement.

On guest worker Visas, Obama voted for massive increases with no reforms. This bill alone would have decimated professional careers and the middle class.

In responding to a constituent, Obama literally accuses this person who has lost their career to labor arbitrage of blaming immigrants:

Blaming H1-B visas will not help us rise to meet these challenges….Immigrants with H1-B visas are not the cause of the squeeze on middle class families

Obama is a Pin Head Are you seeing this?  He is accusing an American of “blaming immigrants” when the statistics are overwhelming that the H-1B guest worker Visa is a corporate labor arbitrage vehicle and many America professionals have lost their careers with this technique!  Even worst, the H-1B Visa is a method for age discrimination.

How many times do world leading experts need to testify before congress, including the GAO, telling these representatives there is a glut of STEM professionals in the United States!

On bill S.1035, the H-1B and L-1 Visa Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act of 2007, Obama cannot bring himself to co-sponsor it in spite of the fact not only is it written by his Illinois colleague Dick Durbin, but the Chicago government board adopted it as policy!

And here’s the ultimate screw you America bomb:

We should allow immigrants who earn their degrees in the U.S. to stay, work, and become Americans over time.

Obama decimates the US middle class
Turning our University systems into a glorified green card machine is not only not warranted, what will that do to deny educational opportunities to US domestic diversity, to Americans?

I must ask you, what is the difference here for change when these are the same corporate lobbyist wish lists that have been promoted by President Bush?   I know that’s harsh, but this is just a sham and no it does not make me feel great to point out these corporate lobbyist positions and votes Obama has.

I happen to agree with all your positions but have to laugh at your naivete in thinking Obama is going to help prevent massive H1B and Employment green card increases. He is about as clueless and removed from our concerns as Bush was about the illegals.

I don’t see any Dem even acknowledging your concerns let alone do something about them. Just parse this line “We should allow immigrants who earn their degrees in the U.S. to stay, work, and become Americans over time.”. First the foreign students in US univs are on F1 or J1 NON-immigrant visas. They are not immigrants - then to jump to saying a US degree is an automatic entitlement to citizenship is absurd. How are going to go from here to even a mildly restrictive stance and prevention of discrimination against citizens? Your only hope is to keep the status quo.

Good luck with your dems.

I wrote this piece to point out Obama is not going to represent us. This is a damning, expose on Obama and yes we are Dems. If you’re a GOP, you’re in just as much trouble. Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, McCain all want the SKIL or massive H-1B and employment green card increases. I just did a piece on Giuliani on this blog as well as Ron Paul.

As far as Dems helping us, there are a few, they are the ones who have written:

S.1035 : H-1B and L-1 Visa Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act of 2007 (Durbin-Grassley)

H.R.2538 : To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide greater protections to domestic and foreign workers under the H-1B nonimmigrant worker program. (Pascrell)

H.R.2504 : To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act with respect to the admission of L-1 intra-company transferee nonimmigrants. (DeLauro)

H.R.548 : To establish a Congressional Trade Office (DeFazio)

Where are the Republicans on these? Beyond Chuck Grassley, who is fighting very hard for us and yes he is a Republican, face it, both parties are often bought and paid for.

Perfect picture to depict how hopelessly entrenched Obama is into the status quo. Great post here. Obama is for “change” just as much as the dollar is now worth a few pennies…Meanwhile, the sell out of white collar jobs to third world “skilled” workers has many on the left oddly applauding it whereas shouldn’t this be the exclusive province of the right? When does the wholesale job sellout stop?

what is astounding to me is the level of knowledge an average American has of Economics. Basic Economics and Monetary theory has been totally stripped from most college General Education cirriculums in exchange for the myraid of junk sociology courses on ‘Womyn’s Role In Modern Society’ and ‘Racism: why Whitey Shouldn’t get a Dime of Tax Money’. The scariest of all, and this comes from personal experience, is how America sweeps is ‘collateral damage’ under the carpet so as not to disturb all the other functioning capitalists. I feel like I live in an entirely different economy than my father.

How can you hoodwink the people if they actually understand what’s going on?
